Wi-Fi Connectivity Troubleshooting

Origin's Larkspur update improves the Wi-Fi Network interface. More information on updating Origin can be found here.

Connecting to Wi-Fi

To connect Origin to Wi-Fi first tap Settings then Wi-Fi.

Select the network and type in the password. Once you click 'Connect' Origin will attempt to connect to your network.

When Origin connects to Wi-Fi, it will display the connected network in green and show a signal strength indicator.

If your Origin detects a problem with connection to the internet, it will now display a warning on the Settings and Wi-Fi pages. This will help you quickly identify when the device is unable to connect online.

Troubleshooting Wi-Fi Connection

It's possible to have a connection to your wireless router, while not having a connection to the internet nor Shaper servers. When this is the case, you may see a connected Wi-Fi network, but you will not be able to access things like your files or new software updates. If this is the case Origin will display "No Internet Connection" under the network the tool is connected.

Follow these steps to resolve connection issues:

Reboot Your Router

If your Origin shows a connectivity issue, start by rebooting your router:

  • Unplug your router from the power source.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds.
  • Plug the router back in and wait for it to fully reboot (this usually takes a minute or two).
  • Once your network is back online, check if your Shaper Origin has reconnected.

Check Router Permissions

Note: you should only take this step if you have experience adjusting these settings.

If rebooting the router doesn’t resolve the issue, the next step is to ensure your router has the necessary permissions to communicate with your tool. Some routers come with strict default settings that might block communication with external devices.

  • Access your router’s settings by entering the IP address in a web browser (usually found on the router or in the manual).
  • Look for any security settings or parental controls that might block new devices from connecting.
  • Make sure there are no restrictions on ports or IP addresses required by the Shaper Origin software.

Check for Network Filters (e.g., Pi-Hole)

If you use network filtering software such as Pi-hole, it’s possible that these filters could block essential communications between Shaper Origin and its servers. Pi-hole, in particular, is known for blocking advertisements and unnecessary tracking, but it can sometimes interfere with necessary Internet traffic.

  • Open your Pi-Hole dashboard and review the list of blocked domains.
  • Ensure that none of the domains or IP addresses used by Shaper Origin are being blocked.
  • If you see any blocked addresses that look like they belong to Shaper Origin, whitelist them to allow proper communication.

Test the Connection on Another Device

To determine if the issue is specific to Origin or a broader network problem, try connecting another device (like a phone or laptop) to your Wi-Fi network. If these devices also fail to connect to the Internet, the problem likely lies with your network and not Origin.

Test a Phone Hotspot

Connecting Origin to a hot spot broadcast from your phone or other mobile device will help determine the source of the issue.
