In this walkthrough, we'll install a Soss Model 101 Hinge using Plate. This operation uses the Fence for alignment.
1. Find Hardware on ShaperHub's Hardware Catalog
The Shaper Hardware Catalog is your source for accurate, Shaper-verified hardware templates.
Find it by navigating to ShaperHub on your browser and clicking on Hardware Catalog:
To find the Soss 101 Hinge in the Hardware Catalog, search for "Soss 101:":
Click on the Soss 101 hardware object, then click "Sync to My Files" to sync the Soss 101 cut files to your Origin.
2. Create Your Workspace
If you've already created a Plate template workspace, preparing your Workspace for a hardware installation is easy: just duplicate that template Workspace and name it something identifying. In this case, we'll name the new workspace "Plate - Soss 101."
To finish setting up the workspace, navigate to Design Mode on Origin. Import the Soss 101 file, and use "Position" to place its custom anchor at the center of the front fence: - X=0mm, Y=-50mm.
3. Mark your Workpiece and Align Plate
Mark the workpiece where you plan to install the hardware. Use Plate's Fence fence, align the center mark of Plate's front fence to the mark, then retract the Fence.
Plate's rubber base will hold it in place in most situations, but you can also clamp Plate in place using the included clamps if you would like.
4. Cut with Origin
Following the suggestions in the cut file annotations, cut the hardware mortise. Once the insert is cut, perform a test fit before moving Plate out of position. If necessary, add a negative Offset to the cut(s) for a perfect fit.
