Standard Cut Diagnosis

If you're having issues with cut quality, you can conduct this test, document your results, and send them to us at support@shapertools.com. The closer your documentation resembles the pictures below, the easier it will be for our team to diagnose the issue and provide recommendations.

Before conducting this test, make sure you wipe off the clear plastic covering over Origin's camera lens. Use a clean, dry microfiber cloth. The lens is found between the two LEDs on the back of Origin directly beneath the handle.

1. Set Up Your Workspace

  • Use a single, fresh piece of plywood (do not use multiple pieces of wood for this)

  • Clamp it to a spoilboard/workbench

  • Create a tape array that includes four strips of ShaperTape measuring approximately:

    • 12" long

    • 2" of space between strips

Now that the workspace is ready, create a New Scan and take a picture of the complete workspace.

3. Cut the 5" circle

  • Use a 1/4" cutter

  • Set spindle speed to 5

  • Make an online cut with 0" offset

  • Make your cut at an 1/8" depth

  • Hold down the "Auto" button while cutting and move Origin as smoothly as possible

  • Ensure that you are providing consistent downward pressure while cutting

  • Turn off any LED or incandescent lights you have in your shop. Natural light is fine.

8. You can also place and cut a second circle next to the first with exactly the same cut specs, except without using Auto, ie entirely under your own control.

9. Finally, cut a straight vertical line at least 12" long with your spindle speed set at 6.

10. Email all images to support@shapertools.com and add information about the issues you are having.
