Spindle Speed Settings
The RPM range of the Shaper SM1 spindle is 10,000-26,000 RPM. Below is the approximate speed of each setting:
-
10,000 RPM
-
13,200 RPM
-
16,400 RPM
-
19,600 RPM
-
22,800 RPM
-
26,000 RPM
The right spindle speed setting for your project will depend a lot on the material; your cutter geometry and diameter; and the speed in which you move Origin across the worksurface (feed speed).
Generally speaking, if the cut is feeling 'grabby', then your spindle speed may be too slow. Conversely, if you are smelling any burning or notice charring in your cuts, then your spindle speed may too high for your feed speed.
For cutting hardwood and plywood at Origin's default speed in Auto-Mode (10 ipm), we recommend that you use a spindle speed setting between 4 and 5.
