Can Origin Retract Before I Damage My Workpiece?

If you move beyond Origin’s corrective range while cutting, the tool will retract the cutter from your workpiece to prevent damage. If you are cutting at a reasonably shallow depth and you do not ‘fly’ out of bounds, the bit can retract quickly enough that it will not damage your workpiece.

If, however, you are cutting at a 1” depth and you push aggressively out of the corrective range, the cutter will almost certainly leave a mark as it retracts away from the material.

We are continuously improving Origin’s retraction process, including the use of predictive motion path compensation algorithms.

When cut quality is your paramount concern, we recommend performing bulk material removal at an offset from the final intended path. Then use a finishing pass where only a small amount of material needs to be removed by the cutter.
