# General Care and Maintenance
Keeping Plate clean and free of debris will extend its life. The following are tips for general care and maintenance:
#### Domino Field
**Never use abrasives tools, cleaners, or alcohol to clean the domino surface.** These can damage the tape field.
To clean the top of Plate, simple brush it clean with a soft bench brush and/or wipe it with a damp rag. It's generally better to apply water to the rag than to the surface itself.
#### Clearing Chips and Dust
To effectively clear the buildup of debris engage each of Plate's moving parts (the Flags, Reticle, and Fence) and vacuum out the corners. This should help loosen debris and pull it away from moving mechanisms.
#### Cleaning the Non-Slip Pad
Similar to Plate's top, a damp rag is sufficient to clean the pad when necessary. Use compressed air or dust collection to remove debris. Be careful not to pull on the pad with vacuum suction and don't use any abrasives or cleaners on the pad surface.
