Inlays & Bowties Walkthrough
Plate is perfect for inlays and bowties that fit within the Window. These are best aligned using Plate's Reticle. In this walkthrough, we'll cut a bowtie.
1. Create Your Workspace
If you've already created a Plate template workspace, preparing your Workspace for a hardware installation is easy: just duplicate that template Workspace and name it something identifying. We'll name this new Workspace "Plate - Bowtie."
To finish setting up the Workspace, navigate to Design Mode. Import your bowtie file, and use Position to place its custom anchor at the center of Plate's window - X=0mm, Y=0mm.
2. Mark the Workpiece and Align Plate
Mark the workpiece where you plan to insert the bowtie. Using Plate's Reticle, align the center line to mark on your workpiece, and then retract the Reticle. Plate's grippy rubber base will hold it in place, even in the middle of a large tabletop.
3. Cut with Origin
Cut the bowtie mortise. Do a test fit with your bowtie before moving Plate from its position. If more space is required, add a negative Offset to the cut to give the bowtie more room to fit.
Inlays
When cutting inlays, you'll follow this same process. However, be careful to confirm that the size of the inlay mortise will fit within Plate's Window. The Window measures is 160mm × 120mm.
