Check to confirm that both the orange spindle clamp and the orange transport lock are removed before continuing. Both these locks are designed to prevent your spindle from moving along the full extent of its z-axis range.
If you've confirmed that your transport locks have been removed, the spindle's movement may be hampered by a buildup of sawdust. You can clear this out by following these steps:
(Important: Before beginning the process below, please insure that your tool's entire base plate is on a single, uniform surface when you are trying to conduct your Z-touch. Make sure that a cutter is installed, the collet is tight, and the hex screw on the side of the spindle is tight. If you've assured yourself of all the above, then continue with the steps below)
-
Unplug your tool.
-
Unplug and remove the spindle.
-
Remove the chip tray at the back of your tool and empty it. Leave it aside for the moment.
-
Gently move the carriage down to its lowest limit.
-
With a can of compressed air and a straw attachment, blow air into the gap that is opened by moving the carriage down. [see animation]
Note: Be careful not to blow compressed air at the blue/green seals (located on the left of the carriage behind where the spindle clamps), or directly onto the brown flex cable that connects the Z-Axis to the tower (located behind and to the left of the Z-Axis column)
Blow air into the gap on the side of the carriage that is exposed by moving the spindle to its lowest point. [see picture below]
Vacuum up all visible sawdust and chips, replace the chip tray, and replace the spindle.
