This video provides a complete walkthrough of the new and improved Grid Tool featured in our Humboldt release. We suggest that you create a Grid whenever you start working in a new Workspace. Note, also that you can't use the Position feature without first creating a Grid.
In order to create a new Grid, Origin will need to plunge so that a bit can rest up against the side of your material. For the most accurate grid, we recommend you use the opposite end of your engraving bit for probing.
Note: The spindle should not be powered on at any point during this procedure
To create a New Grid, enter Design Mode and tap the Grid Tool on the left-hand side of the screen.
Using the green handle button, lower your bit so that it can make contact with the edge of your workpiece and tap 'Set Depth' on the screen.
Your first two probe points will define your Grid's X axis. Move your tool to the edge of your workpiece that you want to index against and tap the green handle button.
Don't press forcefully against the edge of your workpiece, to limit the chance of Grid inaccuracy. Also, remember to confirm that the bit diameter you have entered is accurate.
Note that you can choose to use either edge of your bit or the center of the bit as your index. Tap the 'Edge' icon to toggle between these options.
Probe your second point. Your x axis will be drawn to connect Probe 1 and Probe 2.
Probe your third point to specify your Y axis. Remember that you can toggle between probe edges. Origin will default to an appropriate edge, based on the direction you move from your second probe to your third probe point
Modify Your Grid
You can change the increments on your Grid at any point by tapping the Modify tile.
You can Delete your Grid:
You can also toggle the Grid's visibility on and off in Design Mode by tapping the Grid icon at the top of the screen
