Origin's Larkspur update added several features to Design Mode including Export. More information on updating Origin can be found here.
Export allows users to send all the designs from their current Workspace directly to their Shaper Account as a Studio design:
Users can now save designs created on tool to their Shaper Account and also round-trip files to Studio or other 3rd party design tools for further editing and manipulation before bringing it back into on Origin.
To Export a Workspace design to your account:
- Once you have a design you want to export, go to Design and tap Export
- This will show an Export dialog where you can Name the export, save the Grid as a Custom Anchor, and finally send the design to your Account.
Studio Designs created via Export are stored in your Shaper Account. Access them via My Files. To download it as an SVG open it in Studio and then use the Download feature to save it onto your device.
If position and rotation is important to the design it's important both to use a Grid while designing on Origin and make sure it's part of the export. The origin of the Grid, the 0,0 point, will be exported as a Custom Anchor. In Studio this point will be aligned to appropriate point on the Studio canvas. In other software the Custom Anchor can be used to orient the design.
There are two major benefits to this feature:
- Shaper Account cloud storage: You can export your files from Origin into the cloud, ensuring they're ready for later use or modification without being tied to your physical device.
- Round-tripping between Origin and Studio: Export feature allows you to start a design on Origin, continue refining it on the web or your phone in Studio, and then bring it back to Origin, with all edits and adjustments in place.
Now if you want to re-use a file created directly on tool, just export it when you are done and access it afterwards in your Shaper Account.
