Pocketing Procedure

Pocketing Procedure on Origin is pretty straightforward. Watch this video for a rundown of the procedure, or watch this video:

Or follow these simple steps:

1. Select the shape you want to pocket out. Make sure it's a closed path as Origin will only allow pocketing on closed paths.

2. Encode your design element as a Pocket. You can do this in in Studio's Plan Mode, design software, or you can change the Cut Type on tool. If you change the Cut Type on tool you may need to move Origin so the corrective range is on the inside of the shape:

3. Unlike other cut types, pocketing allows you to move Origin freely to remove material from your pocket. Origin automatically adds a small offset when performing a pocket cut, allowing you finish up the edge with an Inside cut.

Note: before the Napa version of Origin's software, this offset was equal to 1/6th of the specified cutter diameter. Starting with the "Napa" version of Origin's software, this offset is now equal to 1/4th of the specified cutter diameter.

4. Once the entire pocket is cut change your cut type to 'Inside' and cut a final pass at the same depth as your pocket to create a clean, uniform edge.
